How to Calculate GST in India?
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is an indirect tax used in India on the supply of goods and services. Our calculator makes it easy to find both inclusive and exclusive tax amounts.
1. GST Exclusive (Add GST)
Use this mode to find the total price if you know the net value. For example, if a product costs ₹100 and the tax rate is 18%, the GST will be ₹18 and the total will be ₹118.
2. GST Inclusive (Remove GST)
Use this mode if the price already includes tax and you want to find the original amount. This is also called a Reverse GST calculation.
Indian GST Slab Rates
The Government of India has divided goods and services into four primary tax slabs:
- 5% Slab: Applied to essential items like sugar, spices, and tea.
- 12% Slab: Applied to items like butter, cheese, and mobile phones.
- 18% Slab: The most common rate, applied to services, electronic goods, and capital goods.
- 28% Slab: Applied to luxury items like cars, high-end motorcycles, and tobacco products.
What are CGST, SGST, and IGST?
Under the GST regime, tax is collected based on whether the transaction is within a state or across states.
- CGST & SGST: For local (intra-state) trades, the tax is split 50/50 between the Central and State governments.
- IGST: For inter-state trades, a single Integrated GST is applied and collected by the Central Government.
